A century and a half of advocacy, led by Deaf Hoosiers.
Founded in 1886 from the Indiana School for the Deaf alumni association, IAD grew into its own independent voice. One that has championed the civil, linguistic, and human rights of Deaf Hoosiers for over a century.
Today, IAD serves more than 230,000 Deaf Hoosiers statewide through advocacy, programming, and community leadership. We are one of the oldest Deaf-led organizations in the nation and this gala is a toast to what comes next.
To promote access and to preserve, protect, and advance the civil, human, and American Sign Language (ASL) linguistic rights of Deaf people in Indiana.
The multilingual and multicultural heritage of Deaf Hoosiers will be acknowledged and respected in the pursuit of life, liberty, and equality.
Still signing, still fighting.
IAD 15th Biennial Reunion, Indianapolis, 1936. A legacy built by Deaf Hoosiers, carried forward together.
